New order -
Carling Academy, Newcastle
Wednesday 11th October
I went to see New Order at the Carling Academy in
Newcastle. I hadn't planned this but fate dictated I went.
A lad at work was trying to get rid of a couple of tickets - think they were
30 quid each face value. I offered him ten for one. He asked if I was being
serious. Of course. Then on Tues morning he emailed and said I could have
the pair for 25 each. I noted he was cracking and said ten, no more. Anyway
I wasn't arsed - before I left work yesterday I left him my number and said
ring me when he's crying. Off I went to the gym, came home and turned my
phone on and Ally had left a message saying she had got me a ticket for a
tenner. I cackled and thought "Skaife has bottled it." No he hadn't, Ally's
sister's husband couldn't come. Anyway it cost a tenner.
As for the gig it was so so. I'm not a big fan of New Order but am glad I
went to see them. Their new stuff wasn't awe inspiring. They played a few
classics and some Joy Division tracks. Not bad. I was quite upset because I
was waiting for John Barnes to come on for the encore and do his rapping bit
from world in motion but it never happened. I was quite fucking rough this
morning. I thought I'd had 2/3 pints but re-calculated and realised it was
more like 6/7. hmmm. That'll explain why when I got home I fell off the
chair.
We had a drink afterwards in the Head of Steam and I cried because I saw I'd
missed the Lemonheads playing in the Cluny a few days back. Fuckers. Also
missed Micah P Hinson.
